Connecting offices and heating systems
For Städtische Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH Nordhausen, we combine office building automation with technical monitoring of existing heating systems. At the main office, room climate, window status and presence detection were integrated in Loxone and extended with lighting and shading functions.
At selected properties, we connected existing heating controllers and meters to a shared control and visualisation layer. Different interfaces are used to suit the equipment: Modbus for controller data, M-Bus for compatible heat meters and a JSON interface for integrating a peak-load boiler.
The challenge
Automating offices according to demand
At the main office, radiator control, room temperatures, window status and presence detection needed to work together. Lighting and shading had to fit into the existing building technology and be accessible through a shared interface.
Making diverse heating systems accessible
The properties use different controllers, heat generators and meters. The task was to capture relevant operating values, map the data points and present clear system diagrams. Existing equipment needed to be connected using its available interfaces.
Technical implementation
Loxone for climate, lighting and shading
The office automation uses Air radiator actuators, window contacts and presence detectors. Lighting zones were divided by floor and building wing, brightness readings were linked to lighting control, and motorised shading was integrated.
Modbus, M-Bus and JSON integration
We connected equipment including Novatec controllers and SAMSON TROVIS 5573 controllers via a SAM HOME gateway, checking the readings against the controller displays. Compatible Itron heat meters were integrated using M-Bus. For an ELCO peak-load boiler, we implemented data access through the Siemens OZW672 JSON interface. System diagrams and visualised operating values provide a clear overview of the integrated equipment.
