Leinefelde-Worbis · Heating monitoring
Making existing heating systems visible
For Wohnungsbau- und Verwaltungs-GmbH Leinefelde, we make operating data from existing heating equipment accessible. In the pilot project on Hahnstraße, an R+S heating controller was connected to Loxone and a Grundfos MAGNA3 pump was integrated through its Modbus interface.
A graphical system overview presents the available values from the district heating substation, heating circuit and domestic hot water system in their technical context. Selected data is also stored in InfluxDB and visualised as time series in Grafana, bringing current operating conditions and historical trends together.
The challenge
Integrating equipment without replacing the controller
The existing R+S RU 65-1F-110 needed to retain its control functions while making operating data available for a higher-level interface. Parameters from the manufacturer-specific bus had to be mapped to the corresponding Modbus data points.
Presenting measurements clearly
Controller and pump data needed to be accessible together. Historical analysis was required alongside current readings, using clear labels, an understandable system diagram and charts for selected data points. The design was based on the sensor and controller values actually available.
Technical implementation
R+S bus, gateway and Modbus
An MBS universal gateway connects the R+S controller to the building automation system. Required parameter addresses were identified at the controller, the mapping was adapted, and data types and register order were configured in Loxone. The Grundfos MAGNA3 is read via Modbus RTU using a CIM 200 module.
System diagram and time series
The Loxone interface displays the integrated system sections and pump data. Selected data points are also stored in InfluxDB and displayed as time-series charts in Grafana. A link in the Loxone system overview connects the current view with the historical dashboard.
