Heating stations

Connecting existing systems for clearer insights

This collection brings together completed integration work at heating stations in Thuringia’s housing sector. The common task is to make existing controllers, pumps and operating values digitally accessible without replacing the established control system as a matter of course.

We connected different types of existing equipment to Loxone using Modbus, manufacturer-specific bus gateways and other available interfaces. Graphical system diagrams present operating values in context. In projects extended with historical monitoring, InfluxDB and Grafana complement the live view with stored measurements and time-series analysis.

01

The challenge

Bringing different equipment together
Existing heating stations use different generations of controllers and interfaces. Measurements are often only available at the local device. A shared interface requires the available data points to be identified, mapped clearly and configured with the correct data types and units.

Understanding the complete system
Supply temperatures, domestic hot water preparation, pump values and operating states need to be understandable in context. The sensors and interfaces actually installed determine what can be captured. A clear system diagram supports technical assessment; historical charts add a further perspective where data storage has been implemented.

Technical implementation

Controller and meter integration
Completed integrations include SAMSON TROVIS controllers via Modbus, R+S controllers through an MBS universal gateway and Grundfos MAGNA3 pumps via Modbus RTU. Depending on the station, compatible heat meters were connected using M-Bus or data from a Siemens OZW web server was accessed through JSON.

Visualisation and trend analysis
Relevant data points were linked to graphical system diagrams in Loxone. Selected projects also received InfluxDB data storage and Grafana dashboards, allowing current readings and trends over time to be compared. The scope and functions depend on the equipment actually integrated at each site.
