Experiencing building automation at work

At the new Kern-Haus office in Erfurt, Loxone was integrated into everyday office use. Meeting areas, the corridor and sanitary facilities combine practical operation with a first-hand experience of building automation.

The technical focus is on lighting, wall controls and app-based operation, together with integration of the sanitary ventilation. The installation combines a central Miniserver with decentralised Air components, taking existing cabling and the building’s installation constraints into account.

01

The challenge

Fitting automation into existing installation routes
The office offered different options for additional cabling. The controls therefore needed to combine central connections with decentralised wireless components. In particular, the wall controls in the two meeting rooms and the corridor LED lighting required coordinated connections and configuration.

Keeping everyday operation straightforward
Lighting and connected functions needed to be available locally and through the Loxone app. The separate sanitary areas also required the ventilation fans to be considered. The configuration had to reflect the actual wiring and behaviour of the connected equipment.

Technical implementation

Miniserver and decentralised Air components
The meeting room wall controls were integrated using Nano IO Air, with an Air Base providing the wireless connection. The Miniserver and connected components were commissioned, the configuration was adjusted and the functions were tested.

Integrating lighting and ventilation
The distributed LED power supplies in the corridor were switched together through a Miniserver output. The sanitary fans were prepared for central control by bypassing their built-in delays. App-based operation was also configured, with subsequent software updates supporting ongoing system maintenance.
