Heating controls retrofit · Rudolstadt

Two heating circuits. One clear control system.

At Kälte-Schramm’s headquarters near Rudolstadt, room and heating circuit controls were migrated from Siemens Synco living to Loxone. Two circuits serving the office and apartment now combine individual room control, pump and mixing valve control with shared visualisation. The existing heat generation controller remains integrated. Existing cabling and 230 V actuators are retained, with Loxone Air components providing sensing and distributed control.

The challenge

The existing room and heating circuit controls needed modernisation while the Siemens Synco 700 heat generation controller remained in service. This required clear separation and reassignment of the interfaces between rooms, heating manifolds and the heat source.

The office and apartment each have a heating circuit with its own pump and mixing valve. Both require coordinated flow temperature control and a separate analogue heat demand signal to the existing controller.

The retrofit also covers reuse of existing 230 V actuators, integration of new room sensors and clear operation. The pumps’ existing manual/off/automatic switching arrangement needed to be retained.

Technical implementation

A Loxone Miniserver controls both mixing circuits, including their pumps and mixing valves. Separate 0–10 V outputs communicate the office and apartment heat demands to the existing Synco 700 controller. Flow temperature sensors, pumps and mixing valves were connected using the existing cabling.

Room Comfort Sensor Air devices supply measurements for individual room control. Two Multi Extension Air units and a Nano IO Air operate the retained 230 V actuators at the heating manifolds. Additional Valve Actuator Air devices integrate individual radiators. The pumps’ existing manual/off/automatic controls remain available.

Two iPads and the Loxone app provide operation. A hydraulic plant schematic, room views and category views make the system clear to navigate. Matching component designations in the electrical diagrams and Loxone configuration allow inputs and outputs to be identified consistently.
